At The Selfish Luxury Traveler, we believe that self-care for the soul and the planet can coexist. Our retreats are curated not only to nurture Black women over 45 through joyful, luxurious experiences—but also to protect the destinations and communities we visit.
We prioritize both environmental and social sustainability, ensuring that our presence leaves a positive footprint, not just memories. From working with locally owned businesses and cultural guides to choosing eco-conscious experiences and reducing waste, we are intentional in how we travel.
What We Practice:
- Support for Local & Black-Owned Businesses: We partner with small, independently owned restaurants, wineries, and guides to reinvest our dollars back into local economies.
- Culturally Respectful Travel: We take time to learn from and honor the communities we visit. We don’t just pass through—we engage, we uplift, and we give back.
- Eco-Responsible Choices: From minimizing single-use plastics to choosing eco-certified accommodations when available, our retreats make sustainability seamless—not sacrificial.
- Slow Travel Philosophy: We stay longer in fewer places to reduce transit emissions and deepen connection to place.

Eco-Friendly Accommodations
Our commitment to sustainability is woven into every detail of our retreats. From the places we stay to the experiences we enjoy, we choose suppliers and vendors that align with our values—celebrating joyful living while honoring our impact on the planet and people.
We carefully select accommodations and other partner properties known for their environmental stewardship. These hotels implement energy-efficient systems, minimize single-use plastics, and support local communities.
Supporting Black-owned Businesses
We are intentional to incorporate cultural tours that amplify local heritage, including guided experiences with Black-owned businesses in destinations where we host retreats.
By spending directly within these businesses, our company and retreat guests support local communities through social sustainability and regenerative tourism.
